Cheers to a One-derful Year

I can’t believe I joined the Dylan’s Candy Bar team more than 11 years ago as a sales associate and that today marks ONE YEAR as its copywriter. Wow, just wow. Not only does time fly, but hard work really does pay off. I won’t go through the laundry-list of names to thank (it’s too long—they know who they are and what they mean to me), but I just need to reiterate that I wouldn’t be here without them.
As someone with a journalism background who loved (and still loves) long-form writing, I’ve learned a lot about myself as a writer the last 365 days. I can edit myself and write short, punchy sentences. My love for puns and play on words is accepted and encouraged. People respond to what I write.
And as a writer and marketer, that last part is HUGE.
Look, I’m not downplaying my previous writing experiences, whether it was an internship or a job. I just never felt I was writing for an audience that was going to read what I write and think, “Hey, I have to get this from Dylan’s Candy Bar,” or “Dang! That new collection really speaks to me.” In the past, they read what I wrote to be entertained.
In any case, I’m very proud with what I’ve done the last year, and I’m even more proud at my ever-growing self-confidence. (You know I’m an over-thinker, right?)
I can’t wait to see how Year 2 shakes out and what puns I get to make your eyes roll back into your head. Stay tuned ✨
